College life!

Just thought of writing the life that I spent in college, the 4 years where I learnt the way of life.

Personally, every person should move away from their mom and dad, and should go to hostel for at least a year during graduation or post graduation as this is the time that you enjoy the most and will be remembered even when you turn 80.

My college life started in an engineering college, the college – at an isolated place near Shimla – was a beauty. It was a 3.2 kms away from the main highway, one lane road on which big tankers used to ply to solve the water problem and buses to connect the nearby villages with the highway. We used to walk that stretch to get to the highway for two reasons – one was exercise and the other, more important one, was that taxi used to charge Rs 50, which was too much for students, and bus used to come once a day, I still don’t know when.

Living in a hostel, making new friends, going around with girls, bunking classes and giving a damn to the professor who is making an effort to teach what actually he doesn’t know or only has a fair idea of that, spending hours and hours at canteen, and calling everybody by nick names is all fun that we do in college. Nicknames that people get in college stay with them lifelong and friends make sure that they call you with your nickname and not your real name. Nicknames for my bunch of friends were like bevda, raja, pali, khuru, thaili, chotu, little etc. Smoking and drinking are other habits which many people catch once they come to college, and people, who don’t, face tuff time in parties where non drinkers are in minority.

Parties we have had had only 2-3 non drinkers out of approximately 15 people, and let me tell you once the drinkers are out for the day, the non drinkers (including me) face tuff times bringing them back to college. Playing pranks like writing nicknames of the people living in a room on the door while the hostel is sleeping, putting chewing gums on the locks of the rooms in which teachers used to stay and shouting a person’s name to call him, staying on the top floor, from the ground floor in a 10 floor hostel, we have had it all.

Exam time was nothing more than a formality for many of us. We used to study only one day before the exam and that too not the full day. People used to play games like counter strike, age of empires etc, in middle of the exams to get away from students who are bookworms.

So, guys go and grab one seat for you in a college away from home and experience a new world which will make you learn many things which will stay with you lifelong.
